Can I visit my child at daycare?

Yes. Our doors are always open to you - our phone lines, too. We know leaving your child can be stressful, especially in the beginning while everyone adjusts to the transition. So we welcome your calls and visits. Plus, our teachers are happy to speak with you about exactly how your child's day is going at any time.

Do you have a nurse?

Yes. We have a certified nurse on call daily. She visits our classrooms weekly to discuss any healthcare concerns, review health forms or consult on any health issues that our children may face.

Are you open on snow days?

Yes. Just because schools are closed doesn't mean you have a day off from commitments. For that, we do our best to remain open on snow days, and also offer services for school age children. On rare occasions when we have no choice, you'll find our closings posted on local media including News 12, WTNH 8, WEBE and WICC radio.

How do I know how my child's day went?

We have a system in place for communicating with families. Of course we talk with you when you pick your child up, but it goes further than that. Each parent receives written daily communication notes detailing their day, what your child has eaten, the number of diaper changes as well as when and for how long they napped. We also fill you in on your child's mood, what she learned and if any supplies are needed to keep your child well cared for.

How safe is your school?

Your child's safety is our number one priority. With several measures in place, we can keep everyone at Tutor Time safe and secure. Our Safe 'N Sound(TM) security system uses security cameras and observation windows for constant monitoring. Our staff has instant access to all of your child's medical information, arrival and departure times, and names of people authorized for drop-off and pick-up. Plus, our exclusive electronic access system blocks anyone but authorized personnel from being admitted into the building. And the safety of your child extends to the regular monitoring of facilities and equipment, such as finger guards on all doors and our child-sized tables that are "non-tippable" to prevent any injuries while playing.

How flexible is your scheduling?

Your day can be full of surprises. So to truly help parents with childcare needs, our schedule is as flexible as your life. You decide when to drop off and pick up your child. Need to go from full time to part time? No problem. Simply choose the part time hours that work best for you. We also provide for early and late pickup, and remain open on snow days for both pre-school and school age childcare.

What is the turnover of your staff?

The key to our success is the quality of our teachers and caregivers. And we value what they do in their very important job. They enjoy health benefits, 401K, vacation and sick time as well as a warm and supportive working environment. We respect our teachers and praise and reward them for a job well done. As a result, our teachers stay with us. Almost half of the Tutor Time Norwalk staff as been with us between 5 and 12 years - a fact we're very proud of. We even treat our teachers to coffee and treats each Friday, provide dinner at each of our monthly staff meetings, give them a day off on their birthdays and throw an annual fun filled Holiday Party! Will my child be with children their own age?

We have nine classrooms carefully grouped by age and developmental stages. Of those, we offer groups that break down as Infants (6 weeks - 1 year until walking), Toddlers (1 - 2 years old), Twaddlers (2 - 3 years old), Preppers (2.5 - 3.5 years old), Preschool (3 - 4 years old) and Pre-Kindergarten (4 -5 years old). In some centers we offer Before and After School Care (6 -!2 years old).

Does my child have to be Potty Trained?

We have a classroom dedicated to working with children learning to be potty trained. We work with parents when a child shows signs that they are ready to be trained and give children the extra time they need if they are not quite ready.

What is the balance between academics and play?

Free-play, outdoor time and education all fit together into our structured curriculum. We believe a healthy balance of planned activities along free play where children make their choices of activities ensures children are developing and having fun along the way.

Will your curriculum prepare my child for Kindergarten?

Both our Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten programs are geared specifically toward Kindergarten readiness. In fact, twice yearly we use the Brigance Pre-Kindergarten assessment tool that measures progress of the Pre-K classrooms. We are proud that on average our Pre-K classrooms using Tutor Time's LifeSmart curriculum score score above 95%.

How are teachers trained?

At the time of hiring, our teachers receive three full days of on-site training including written and orientation training. They are also partnered with experienced teachers to learn standards and routines. Additionally, our teachers are required to complete 20 hours per year of outside early childhood education and they are also provided with monthly training in house.

Is your school certified?

Yes. We are a licensed Childcare Center overseen by the State of Connecticut. What's more, we meet the national standards established by Tutor Time Corporate. Of their 1000 point checklist, we have continually scored over 95% making us a designated "School of Excellence".

How are children disciplined?

We do not use time-outs. Instead we employ redirection and provide positive reinforcement for good behavior. Our goal is always to provide a safe and happy environment for all.

What food is provided daily for my child?

We keep your child's energy up with a healthy snack in the morning and then again in the afternoon. Our menu includes such foods as a breakfast type snack such as waffles or pancakes, fresh fruit, yogurt and more. Every day your child is provided with apple juice, low-fat milk or water. Parents are required to provide lunch that we are happy to heat for you if necessary.
